Cognitive flexibility hypertext - higher education - major quest
Detailed Description:
Many students enter the university not knowing what they want to major in. This can be a very frustrating time for students and they may even leave the university because they cannot find something that interests them. MajorQuest is designed to help students determine how their personal qualities such as interests and values affect their choice of major and what skills and strengths they have that will help them choose their major. When students have a firm knowledge of themselves they are better equipped to choose a major.
Students will work through themes of values, strengths, interests, and skills on their own by reading, writing, and responding to questions. They will work with their advisor throughout the process to help them reflect on what they are learning about themselves and how the information will help them choose a major. Students will be able to analyze themselves, weigh their options, and come to a decision about their major. They will be given the students self-assessment results and asked to determine which major the student might choose. This will give students the opportunity of looking at other students to get a different perspective. They will post their ideas and how they came to their conclusions. Once students have compared their self-assessment results with the majors they are interested in they make goals and decide on an action plan.
